On April 12, 2022, a tornado devastated the Five Star establishment in Mason City, Iowa. In the aftermath, the collective efforts of the Five Star team, board of directors, members and nearby cooperatives ensures that customers were catered to during the spring season. As plans for rebuilding were deliberated upon, the decision was made to relocate to Burchinal. This new location boasted ample space for expansion and proximity to Interstate 35 and Hwy 218 for incoming ingredients and outbound shipments for efficient movement of product. All while remaining centrally situated within Five Star’s operational territory. The new and improved location wouldn’t exist without the support of all involved, ultimately turning a hardship into a positive result.
The development of this site is the single largest agronomy facility investment in Five Star’s 135-year history and is a clear, visible commitment to the community they serve. The new facility, on the original location site, will utilize a full agronomy team including an Operations Manager, full-time agronomist and operations team members for the Burchinal location.
At the heart of the complex’s offerings are advanced services with the latest technology to serve all Iowa farmers. This new facility will provide access to 24-hour fertilizer load out, a state-of-the-art seed treatment facility, and a high efficiency dry fertilizer plant for their customers. Among the services are the revolutionary Gyp-Z and Launch Point products, designed to optimize crop yield and quality, setting a new standard of excellence in agronomic support.
For the completion of this project, Five Star Cooperative partnered with Marcus Construction.
